Love songs are so generic. About every artist nowadays writes love songs. It takes away the true feeling of a love song, if you ask me. Love is really beautiful, there’s no way I can argue with that. But with all the love songs being made now, making a new song about love just doesn’t feel special anymore.
The same goes for songs about emotional pain coming out of a failed relationship, or a toxic relationship: there are simply too many of them. That doesn’t mean, however, that the pain described in such a song isn’t real; I’d like to believe that an artist didn’t write such a song just because he could. There must’ve been pain involved when the artist wrote the song.
However, everyone is writing these kinds of songs nowadays. They’re not really special anymore. Therefore, I chose to write less love songs and focus more on other things in life. For example, I’m having an unquenchable thirst for the truth; I always want to know what’s real and what is fake. On a side note; AI makes it very difficult to see what’s real and what’s fake, but that’s a bit off-topic for now.
In an album I made with MuseScore, I’ve stated that everything revolves around our mindset. The album is called All about Mindset, and that basically says it all. In a way, one could say that looking at his own mindset is a very effective way of learning. A certain mindset determines what’s successful and what doesn’t work. In All about Mindset, I used changing your mindset as an asset in finding out what’s true. Because in my opinion, a lot of lies are living their lives in the world. Some are visible, some are not.
And mindset also determines who can see which lies. For example, my mindset is focused on dismantling lies for myself, preferably as many as possible. These lies can be what people tell each other, or what is being told in the media. Like I’ve implied before, I don’t always believe what the media wants me to believe. No one has the complete truth at hands, so why would the media?
With this in mind, the same could be said about science. Now, before continuing on; the science did a lot of good things. The standards of life definitely improved thanks to science. We, as humans, started to understand nature and life better as well. Thanks to science, we can explain far better what’s happening on Earth. We basically began understanding ourselves and the world we’re living on far better than before.
However; does science have the complete truth? I don’t think it does. By saying the science is always right, one is basically denying himself to find out what’s actually true. What happens after saying that the science is always right, can be described as the following: “The science is always right, so how should I know better than science? They are far more experienced than I’ll ever be.”
I think this is really a shame. If you think like that, you basically agree to science making decisions for you. You’re giving away your freedom to choose, because the science always knows better. “Trust the science. Trust the science. A chant that echoes through compliance.”, as I wrote in the song Trust the science.
Compliance, however, is a mindset as well. It’s a choice to comply. Not a choice I’d make, but a choice still. And besides finding out the truth, I also value the freedom to make your own choices. It’s a choice to trust everything the media, or the science for that matter, tells you. No one knows everything, and no one is always right.
I could also be wrong about statements I made with songs. And it’s perfectly fine to disagree with some (or most) of my texts; that’s freedom as well. Just like it’s my freedom to not always believe the media, the science and what some people are trying to tell me. I am me, I’ll always listen to myself in the first place.
By now, I’ve learnt to leave opinions to people, instead of allowing them to influence me. In the end, everyone tends to believe their own truth; everyone has his or her own mindset. And in this light, it’s my choice to make less love songs and more songs about really finding out what’s true and what is fake.
